Knowing When to Chill Out

There are days when the weather makes decisions for us. Snow is on the ground. Ice is on the road. Wind is howling. Roads are quiet. Plans are cancelled.

And maybe that’s a good thing. Instead of fighting it, this may be an opportunity to rest.

Use days like these to light your favorite candle. Make a soup you absolutely love. Linger in your most comfortable seat with your coffee or tea. Let your nervous system fully soften in the moment. These moments of stillness are not interruptions on your progress.

Rest days like these are part of it.

Real rest and relaxation is productive. Cozy days are healing. Sometimes the most powerful thing you can do is honor your body’s desire to slow down and feel safe. Trusting that life’s busy schedule will be back in motion soon. Just not today.

Looking for snow day ideas if you absolutely must feel productive? Try these ideas:

  • Create a Pinterest board of the future version of you (tip: let your imagination run wild)

  • Finally organize the pantry — toss expired items, notice what;s missing, create systems, ditch the processed foods

  • Journal. I cannot express enough how much this will improve your thinking and your life. Journaling creates peace in your inner world.

  • Meditate. Even if it’s a guided meditation for 10 minutes (YouTube has plenty of them)

  • Listen to music. This is one of the fastest ways to shift your mood and change your frequency is with music.

  • Clean out your makeup drawer: ditch expired items, clean your brushed, simplify

  • Nap! One of the best ways to rest and renew is to get some sleep. Bonus if you layer on moisturizer on your face, neck, hands and feet.

Winter is not asking you to push harder or be tougher. In nature, winter is a season of rest. It is part of the cycle. Sometimes the snow is simply providing the opportunity to be fully present and enjoy the season.
