Self-Care is an Act of Love

Self care is often perceived as something we do when we’re exhausted or overwhelmed. Real self care is choosing YOU every day in hundreds of small ways.

True self-care is devotion to yourself. Private moments of compassion. Small consistent decisions, actions and thoughts. We demonstrate love to ourselves through simple yet meaningful choices all day — every day.

What is self care for you?

Is it walking with a friend? Booking that massage? A candle-lit bubble bath after a long day? Booking pilates classes for the next few weeks? Boxing classes with a close friend? Dinner with the one you love?

Self care is not an isolated event. It’s choosing to indulge and ENJOY LIFE in hundreds of small ways.

If this sounds new to you, including meaningful forms of self care into each day can be quite simple.

A calming full body stretch before bed. Turning off your phone a little earlier — without doom scrolling first! For that matter, prioritizing sleep is a profound way of showing love to yourself. Saying no when you feel pressured to say yes, but genuinely would prefer to pass on an invitation. Self care is also saying yes when something lights up your soul!

Other forms of self love would be investing in a really delicious smelling perfume you LOVE using, or perhaps a deeply moisturizing body lotion that makes you feel gorgeous. It’s wearing your favorite matching set to the gym because you feel AMAZING every single time you wear it. Small acts of kindness to yourself. That is real self care.

Self-care isn’t necessarily indulgent. Think of this as really embracing that you truly ARE the main character in your life. Embody main character energy!

Happy Valentine’s Day, everyone!
