My Recovery Rituals

MY RECOVERY RITUALS

Here is something I wish someone had told me at 40, at 50, even at 60: the workout is only the request. Recovery is where your body answers. Muscle is repaired while you rest. Strength is consolidated while you sleep. And at 71, training as hard as I do, my recovery rituals are not a luxury or an afterthought — they are half my program, and I protect them like it.

My ritual has two movements. First, the active work: percussion, vibration, circulation — the tools that help my muscles let go of the day's training. Then the downshift: warmth, magnesium, darkness, sleep. I wrote about the evening half of this in my nightly rituals and my sleep posts, and I will link those below, because they all belong to the same story. This post is the toolbox. These are the exact tools I use, in the order I reach for them.

SHOP THE POST

  1. Hyperice Hypervolt 2 Pro. The first thing I reach for after a hard session. Five minutes of percussion on my glutes, quads, and back, and the tightness simply melts — I feel ready for tomorrow instead of punished by today.
  2. Therabody Prime Plus. My deeper session tool, for the days my body asks for more. Powerful, quiet, and part of how I keep training at this level year after year.
  3. HigherDOSE Supercharge Copper Body Brush. Before my evening bath, I dry brush toward my heart — it wakes up my skin, gets my circulation moving, and marks the moment my day officially ends.
  4. Alo Magnesium Reset Spray. My downshift signal. A few sprays, a few deep breaths, and my nervous system gets the message: we are done striving for today.
  5. Alo Mindful Magnesium Bath Soak. The grand finale on heavy training days. Warm water, magnesium, and twenty unhurried minutes — I step out feeling like a new woman, and I sleep like one too.

If you want the full picture, read my nightly rituals post, my sleep post, and my micro retreats post next — they are the heart behind this toolbox. Then choose ONE tool from the list above and build your own first ritual around it. Train hard, recover harder, and wake up ready. That is the whole secret, and it is yours now too.
